Planned Itinerary
- Day 0 – Meet the group at Stonewaters, Canmore at 7 pm. We will make sure everyone has everything they need, introduce the group, laugh lots, and distribute the group gear.
- Day 1 – We'll wake up full of energy and carpool to the trailhead. We'll start off saving our legs and watch the world pass us by in the gondola. Once at the top of Sunshine Ski Hill we'll board the Standish chair taking it to a view point. This will kick off our adventure! What a start! WOW! We will hike through massive alpine meadows from Sunshine Ski Hill to Porcupine Campground - 12.5km, 100m elevation gain, 400m elevation loss
- Day 2 – Today we will weave our way around boulders and through fields full of rocks. This area really does look like it is from Mars. We will finish with amazing views of Mt Assiniboine as we gaze over Magog Lake. Oh, and did I mention CAKE??? I bet I just grabbed your attention! At the end of the day enjoy three different types of cake at Assiniboine Lodge. Porcupine Campground to Magog Campground - 14.9km, 400m elevation gain
- Day 3 – Leaving early we'll have a short climb and then enjoy letting gravity do the work. Looking behind us we'll breathe in the spectacular views of Magog Lake and Mt Assiniboine. We really can't do this place justice. It is too beautiful! Magog Campground to McBride Campground - 12.9km, 200m elevation gain, 500m elevation loss
- Day 4 - Time for celebration! We are almost back to the cars! We'll sing christmas songs to keep ourselves entertained and make our way to Mt Shark where our cars will be waiting for us! Wahoo!!! What a trip! McBride Campground to Mt Shark - 14.1km, 200m elevation loss

Level of Difficulty
This trip is designed for those with an intermediate fitness level. Being self sufficient for 4 days will create a heavy pack. You should have the ability to carry ~35 lbs for up to 5 hours over 500 m elevation gain.
If you have the fitness level, minimal experience is needed with backpacking; let me teach you!
