Ladies! Let's Explore the Canadian Rockies!

Follow your expert guide safely through complex avalanche terrain. We will snowshoe across frozen lakes and through a gorge, angle up through steep sections in the trees, and soak in the spectacular views. After perfecting our snowshoeing technique on the steeper sections we reach flatter terrain where it opens up into a beautiful basin. From here you can see our destination for the night, Bow Hut, high up on the headwall. Your jaw may drop with the view, but we have one final push up over the headwall of the Wapta Icefield before we reach the hut.

This trip is not for the faint of heart! You will be following an ACMG Guide through avalanche terrain and crossing over frozen lakes and creek beds. It will be an awesome adventure but one will need to be prepared for the mental and physical effort. No need to stress about finding avalanche gear or snowshoes. We have you covered!

This is a joint program between Get Outside and Alpine Air !

Itinerary and Gear

Planned Itinerary

  • (Pre-Trip) Day 1:
Due to COVID-19 our pre-trip meetings will now be held online at 7pm. We will make sure everyone has everything they need, introduce the group, laugh lots, distribute the group gear, and chat about our amazing adventure. If COVID-19 restrictions relax we will resume in person pre-trip meetings. if this occurs, you will be notified of the change.
  • Day 2:
We'll wake up full of energy and carpool to the trailhead. After bundling up against the elements we will set out on our snowshoes for the hut. Once there we will grab bunks (6 people on one level) for us to sleep on and enjoy heat radiating from the wood burning stove. A three course meal will be prepared as we relax into the evening.
  • Day 3:
After a delicious breakfast we'll gather our stuff, perfect our packing, and head out. Along the way we'll learn some navigation tips and tricks and discuss the various conditions for our route out. Who knows maybe we'll stop for a drink in Lake Louise on the way home?!?

Level of Difficulty

This trip is designed for those with prior snowshoeing experience and a strong fitness level. You will need to be comfortable entering into avalanche terrain and snowshoeing up to 6hrs with a 25 lbs (11.5 kg) pack.
